Description

Dr. Adriane Lam, Assistant Professor of Geology at Binghamton University SUNY, is the guest speaker in tonight’s “Naturally Speaking” Speaker Series. Over the past 23 million years, there was a surge in the variety of tiny sea organisms called planktic foraminifera. This period experienced global temperature changes like those predicted in the near future. Scientists studied these organisms’ movements worldwide using data from past ocean expeditions. They found these creatures traveled extensively across oceans, influencing their evolution and distribution. These findings enhance our understanding of ancient climates and the reliability of foraminifera fossils in dating rocks despite variations in when species first appeared or disappeared. Dr. Adriane Lam received her B.S. from James Madison University, her M.S. from Ohio University, and her Ph.D. from University of Massachusetts Amherst. Click here to register.
