Description
The USS Monitor Legacy Program highlights the history and lasting impact of the USS Monitor in partnership with the NOAA Monitor National Marine Sanctuary. About the lecture: President Lincoln came to Fort Monroe on May 6, 1862, to motivate Major General George B. McClellan and his Army of the Potomac forward toward Richmond. While in Hampton Roads, he organized the capture of Norfolk. His leadership resulted in the destruction of CSS Virginia. This action opened the riverine door to Richmond and supported McClellan’s advance against Richmond. John V. Quarstein, director emeritus of the USS Monitor Center, will present the program in person and livestreamed. Click here to register, whether attending in-person or virtually.
