Ferguson NlightN Event Series: Celebration in Lights  

Newport News Park | Nov. 24 – Jan. 1, 2023; 5:30–10 p.m.

Virginia’s first drive-through holiday light event opens for its 30th season on Thanksgiving night! Newport News Park will be transformed by over a million individual lights, creating animated holiday and fanciful scenes. Admission $12 per car on weeknights (Monday – Thursday), $15 per car on weekends (Friday – Sunday) and $75 per motorcoach.  Advance purchase tickets for cars (good any night) can be purchased for $10 at the Newport News Visitor Center at the entrance to Newport News Park. The Polar Express in Concert

The Wild at Art Show celebrates art and conservation in the world around us. Virginia sculptors David and William Turner and painter Jim Wilson, passionate advocates for Virginia wildlife, will feature works of art to enrich and inspire appreciation of one’s relationship with nature. What is the Holiday Season without music? Regardless of which holidays we celebrate or how we celebrate them, the musical sounds of the season bring us all together. This December, the Peninsula Community Theatre invites you to join them for Sounds of the Season—a holiday music celebration that will warm the heart, tickle the funny bone, please the ear, and remind you what the season is all about: love, joy, and laughter. Sounds of the Season will feature beloved traditional holiday favorites, some newer, less traditional songs, and a sprinkling of musical theatre pieces—all performed by a talented cast of 15 local performers under the stage direction of Jeff Corriveau and the musical direction of Betsey Forrest.  Learn more

Bundle up and gather for holiday cheer at Lions Bridge when The Bronze Door Society hosts the annual wreathing of the four life-sized lion sculptures created by Anna Hyatt Huntington. Bring your loved ones to this free community event and enjoy cookies, hot chocolate, and holiday crafts. Dave Koz and Friends 25th Anniversary Concert Tour

A holiday tradition returns to the Ferguson Center as Dave Koz and Friends' 25th Anniversary Christmas Tour brings together a magical combination of musicians to celebrate this special season. Celebrated saxophonist Koz will be joined by four special guests performing their hits and jamming on fresh, lively arrangements of seasonal favorites in a high-energy show for the entire family. Santa’s Toy Shop

Denbigh Community Center | Dec. 3-30

This year, Santa’s helpers have transformed Denbigh Community Center into Santa’s Workshop with festive holiday décor, painted windows, colorful lights, and a sleigh. Free activities for the public include toy and ornament workshops, children’s gift-wrapping stations, a hot chocolate bar, and holiday movies. It’s a great location for family photos and selfies, too! Several indoor special events take place throughout the month. Learn more

FERGUSON NLIGHTN EVENT SERIES: LIGHTS AT THE FOUNTAIN

City Center at Oyster Point | Dec. 3 – Jan. 1, 2023; 5-9 p.m.     

Sponsored by City Center at Oyster Point, Lights at the Fountain sets the scene for the perfect holiday stroll around City Center’s five-acre fountain plaza. Delighting all ages is a 16-minute synchronized light show playing every half hour, from 5 to 9 p.m. nightly. The immersive light-show experience synchronizes a 42-foot animated holiday tree with 55 perimeter trees circling the fountain and 16 snow machines – all with a festive soundtrack. New this year is Wave-Field, an interactive art exhibit comprised of eight publicly activated, luminous, and musical seesaws. MAKING A DIFFERENCE AT CHRISTMAS: A HISTORY OF TOYS FOR TOTS

Lee Hall Depot | Dec. 4; 2:30 p.m.

The Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program began in 1947 and grew through the support of celebrities like Walt Disney. Herb DeGroft, USMC Ret., will discuss the origin and growth of the holiday-giving program. Admission is free, but guests are asked to bring a new toy to support this year’s Toys for Tots drive. Lighting of the Lawn 

Christopher Newport University, 1 Avenue of the Arts; Dec. 4; 6 p.m.

The public is invited to Christopher Newport University for its annual Lighting of the Lawn. During the event, guests will enjoy hot chocolate and cookies on CNU’s Great Lawn. A holiday event wouldn’t be complete without a visit from a special North Pole guest! Participants can take their photo with Santa and kick off the season with laughter and cheer! The Lighting of the Lawn concludes with a spectacular fireworks show. Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center | Dec. 10; 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Bright Star Touring Theatre, a national professional touring theatre, will present two shows of Holidays Around the World. Join Nick and Joy in their quest to make it home for the holidays. Their journey brings much more than they ever imagined! From Kwanzaa to Christmas to The Festival of Lights, this unique production offers people a look into the winter celebrations that occur around the globe during this special time of year. Audience volunteers help to bring in the Chinese New Year with a colorful dragon, while the Lori festival brings to the stage colorful costumes and stories from India. Learn more

Experience the journey of the Magi around you.   Since 1965, the museum has journeyed in the footsteps of the Magi.  Over the years, the scientific thinking has changed, archeology has revealed new clues, and our understanding of who the Magi might actually have been has grown.  The show was completely revised in 2008 to offer a truly immersive look at the journey of the Magi while examining the latest clues and seeing once more to understand the appearance of the Star of Bethlehem.  Learn more

Celebrate New Year’s Eve at the Virginia Living Museum during its Rockin’ Noon Year’s Eve Party. Make a noisemaker using materials that can be reused to ring in the New Year or make the day explosive with stomp rockets and film-canister rockets. Join us in making an eco-friendly New Year’s Resolution. Enjoy three New Year’s countdowns with whoosh bottles. Includes a DJ with a dance floor, so wear your best party attire!
