Dec. 5: NlightN Holiday Series Kick-Off

We virtually kicked off this year's NlightN Holiday Event Series! You can find our stream from December 5, on Facebook LiveYouTube or on NNTV when we lit the trees at City Center and at Brooks Crossing! You can visit those locations throughout the month nightly from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and experience festive holiday decorations.  

CITY-WIDE

Nov. 26 - Jan. 1, 2021: NlightN Holiday Tour

The city will be lit up to create memorable moments for all who take the NlightN Holiday Tour. Use the NlightN Holiday Tour map to find residential areas, businesses, churches/places of worship, and other organizations that are decorating and creating light displays for the holidays.

 If you want your place of residence or organization to be a part of the tour, please sign up with the NlightN Holiday Tour website and enter the address of the location that will be decorated. There is no cost to participate and all are invited to become part of the tour. You can pick up a sign announcing that you are part of the NlightN Holiday Tour and you will be included in an online tour map.  Call 757-926-1400 for details.

City Center at Oyster Point

Dec. 5 - Jan. 1, 2021: NlightN: Gifts of the Season

Step into a winter wonderland at City Center Fountain Plaza with festive decorations and dazzling lights. Every half hour, from 5 to 9 p.m., enjoy a show with lights and falling “snow,” set to holiday music. Be sure to take photos at the “Instagram-able Moments” sites around the fountain. DENBIGH COMMUNITY CENTER

Nov. 3 - Dec. 31: Winter Gingerland

The Denbigh Community Center is magically transformed into a Gingerbread Wonderland for the holidays! It is free to view during the community center's regular operating hours: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call 757-812-7900 for details.

Dec. 8 - 12: The Gift of Giving

End a tough year with some holiday cheer. Join Downing-Gross for The Gift of Giving, its revamped holiday giveaway for children. Beginning Dec. 8, they are giving out treats and make-and-take crafts to provide kids with their first gift of the holiday season. There will also be a photo opportunity for families to make a joyful memory. Capacity will be limited by time slots so registration is required. Endview Plantation

December 3 - 31: Holidays at Endview

Learn about historical holiday customs on a guided tour of the house. Greenery and period decorations add a festive seasonal touch to the historic home’s interior. Private family sessions with St. Nick are offered in Endview’s historic interior. This long-standing holiday tradition provides family photo opportunities. Reservations are required. A wrapped present for each child participating is requested along with a can of food for the local food bank. Admission is $5.00 per child. Adorn a grapevine wreath with period embellishments at this popular workshop. The $15.00 fee includes the wreath and all materials plus a guided holiday-themed tour of Endview. The event is co-sponsored by the Peninsula Master Naturalists. Masks are required for all participants and social distancing measures will be in place. Dec. 3 - 31: Lee Hall Mansion’s Christmas Through the Ages

Learn about the origins of holiday traditions while exploring nineteenth and twentieth-century period decorated rooms set amidst the splendor of the Victorian Era. Dec. 5 - Jan. 1, 2021: Deck The Hall

Visit Newport News City Hall which will be decked out with a new holiday tree, special décor and illuminating lights in and out of the building. See the lights at 2400 Washington Ave, Newport News, VA 23607.

Newport News Park

Dec. 5: Winter Wildlife Walk

Meet a park naturalist at the Newport News Park Discovery Center to take a stroll through the winter woods. Winter is a great time to see some of the mammals and waterfowl that make the park their home. Dress for the weather and have your camera ready to capture some of the beauty of the park. Nov. 26 - Jan. 1, 2021: 28th Annual Celebration in Lights

Virginia’s first drive-through holiday light show! Since 1993, Celebration in Lights has transformed Newport News Park into a magical winter wonderland. Admission on weeknights (Monday – Thursday) is $12 per car, a savings of $3 off the weekend rate (Friday – Sunday) of $15 per car. Additionally, advance purchase tickets (good any night) can be purchased for $10 at the Newport News Visitor Center at Newport News Park. Admission for motorcoaches is $75 per busload. Celebration in Lights is open daily, 5:30 to 10 p.m.

Port Warwick

Nov. 28: Port Warwick Holiday Tree Lighting and Marketplace

Virginia Living Museum

Nov. 27-29; Dec. 3-5; Dec. 10-12; Dec. 17-20; Dec. 26-27; Jan. 2: Nature Nights Holiday Lights

The new Nature Nights Holiday Lights experience is right in time for the holidays allowing families to walk in nature along the outdoor trail at night with holiday lights guiding the way. The walk is sure to put families in the holiday spirit with guests given a candy cane treat, cookies and cocoa. On sixteen select nights (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday) from November 27, 2020 to January 2, 2021 the evening event will bring a social distancing night walk from 5:30-8:30pm.

In addition, the Abbitt Planetarium show Mystery of the Christmas Star will be shown at 6:30pm and/or Laser Holidays at 8pm for an additional $3 each for VLM members and $6 each for non-members. The Mystery of the Christmas Star story takes viewers on a journey with the magi and the attempt to discover the identity of the Star of Bethlehem! The Laser Holidays show is a holiday celebration in music and lasers. Both shows will have limited seating (20 seats) on November 27, and 28, December 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, and 19, 2020. 

All COVID-19 regulations will be in place, including social distancing and one-way traffic. There will be no access to indoor exhibits, but mask wearing is required. Tickets for the walk and the planetarium/laser show are available at the front desk or online at: https://thevlm.org/events/museum-events/

Santa Sightings in Newport news, va

Santa is a very busy guy this time of year but he is still visiting for those memorable holiday meetings and photos. Please note that many of these events do require masks and social distancing. 

Nov 14 - Dec. 24: Patrick Henry Mall

Throughout the days of the holiday season at Patrick Henry Mall, you can find Santa at his usual spot to meet the good boys and girls before Christmas Day. He can also meet the good cats and dogs for pet photos every Monday from Nov. 16 - Dec. 21. Visits are free and photo packages are available for purchase. Reservations required. Virtual visits are also available for $29.99 with an included recording of your visit.

Dec. 10 - 11: St. Nick at Endview Plantation

Private family sessions with St. Nick are offered in Endview's historic interior from 5 - 7:30 pm.

Dec. 12: Owl Be Home Walk at Virginia Living Museum

Come celebrate the holiday season at the Virginia Living Museum where you can walk the outdoor trail, find Santa, two of his elves, and their animal friends. There will be grab and go crafts, candy bag, and letter drop off for your Christmas list. Make sure you bring a warm winter coat, a letter for Santa, and the holiday spirit! This walk will be on December 12 from 9 - 11 am. Cost is free for members and $4 admission for non-members. Reservations required. 

Dec. 19: Storytime with Santa at The Mariners' Museum

Yo ho ho, Mariners… young and old! Join The Mariners’ Museum and Park for story time with Santa Claus on December 19 from 10 - 11 a.m.

Gather around the Christmas tree or find a cozy spot next to the fireplace and listen in as Santa Claus reads A Pirate’s 12 Days of Christmas. Following the story, children can ask Santa questions or tell him and Mrs. Claus about their holiday plans. Dec. 20: Breakfast with Santa at Sage Kitchen

Eat, drink, and be merry with Santa and his elves for the annual breakfast with Santa on December 20 from 8 am to noon at Sage Kitchen. Reservations required.
