Celebration in Lights, Virginia’s first drive-through holiday light event, opens for its 31st season on Thanksgiving night (November 23, 2023). Newport News Park will be transformed by over a million individual lights, creating animated holiday and fanciful scenes. This year, admission on weeknights (Monday – Thursday) will be $15 per car, a savings of $3 off the weekend night (Friday – Sunday) rate of $18 per car. Experience the magic of the holiday season with the Virginia Living Museum’s holiday planetarium shows. Holiday Magic laser show brings your favorite seasonal songs to life or you can unravel the mystery of the Christmas Star in Star Of Wonder. Daytime shows are offered at 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. Nov. 24 through Dec. 31 on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Planetarium shows are $6 plus museum admission and free for museum members

il divo: A new day holiday tour

Multi-platinum classical crossover group, IL DIVO, will embark on their U.S. “A New Day Holiday Tour” this fall. The group will perform holiday classics that include “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas,” “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” and more, in addition to songs from their vast catalog. IL DIVO is the most commercially successful classical crossover group in international music history since they first banded together in 2004. dave koz and friends: christmas TOUR 2023
Ferguson Center for the Arts | Dec. 2; 8 p.m.
Dave Koz and Friends announce the 26th anniversary edition of the longest-running jazz-based Christmas tour. Beginning the next era of this rich musical tradition, Koz and Friends will perform fresh renditions of timeless Christmas classics – as well as a Chanukah medley – and hits from their respective catalogues. The tour reunites Koz with long-time musical partner, guitarist/singer Jonathan Butler and will feature special guests, saxophonist/flutist Marcus Anderson making his debut, and vocalist Rebecca Jade, marking her third time with the tour. Traversing 25 cities over one month on the road, the tour will also introduce musical prodigy Justin-Lee Schultz, a 16-year old South Africa-born, US-based pianist/guitarist/vocalist and social media sensation. Lights at the Fountain sets the scene for a relaxing stroll around City Center’s five-acre fountain. Here, the lights and soundtrack from a 50-foot animated tree synchronizes with 55 pixel-wrapped perimeter trees that circle the fountain in a 15-minute show that plays every half hour, from 5 to 9 p.m. daily Dec. 2 through Jan. 1. This oh-so sparkly light show showcases animated holiday shows synchronized to your favorite holiday carols on a 30-foot tall tree nightly from 5 to 9 p.m. every half hour. Don't miss the 32nd annual Christopher Newport University Holiday Happening concert, with proceeds supporting music scholarships. This is a free, ticketed concert with general admission seating. Only the first 1,700 ticket holders will be admitted. Enjoy an evening of fun festive music, compliments of the TRADOC Band. The United States Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Band serves as the premier musical organization for U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command and connects the Army to the American people. Based in Fort Eustis, the TRADOC Band performs locally for public concerts, military ceremonies and educational outreach programs while also maintaining a presence on the national stage. Soldiers assigned to the TRADOC Band are active duty, full-time musicians performing in a wide variety of musical ensembles, having trained and studied music at some of the finest colleges, universities and conservatories in the United States and abroad. Join the talented U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Band, featuring top five finalists from America’s Got Talent, Voices of Service, as they perform classic and popular holiday favorites. This nostalgic annual event is great FREE fun for the entire family! Participating business locations will have extended Open House hours and specials for this one-of-a-kind evening. The Hilton Holiday Market, from 4 to 9 p.m., will be filled with artisans and crafters, live blacksmith demonstrations, and gingerbread cookies. Enjoy a seasonal brew at the Coastal Fermentory tent and grab a delicious bite from the food trucks. The gingerbread theme will continue with a variety of gifts and goodies to choose from! The Main Street Lighted Holiday Parade will be held at 5 p.m. on Main Street, between River Road and Warwick Boulevard. Get your Gingerbread Passport to the Gingerbread House Tour, scheduled for 5:30 to 8 p.m., at the Holiday Market. Admission is one can of food, to be donated to Thrive Peninsula. The Marketplace at Tech Center will host a tree lighting with fun activities for families with children. Kids will love the games, crafts, refreshments, and more! Stay for the tree lighting at dusk to kick off the holiday season. Don’t forget to visit with Santa! You’ll also be able to enjoy carolers, hot cocoa, and samples from select restaurants. The Port Warwick Holiday Tree Lighting returns this year with the idyllic Christmas Village in Styron Square! Festivities will start at sundown when Santa arrives at the Square in his horse-drawn carriage and marches toward the Pavilion to light the majestic tree. Live entertainment will occur all evening long. Enjoy meet-and-greets, photos with Santa, carriage rides, games, face-painting, and The Balloon Guy.
