10 Reasons to "Fall" for Newport News: Festivals & Events

If there is one magical time of year in Newport News, it's the fall season. The trees dress gloriously in bright hues of red, green and yellow along our trails. Not to mention the fun wave of festivals that occur October-November to help us enjoy the mild temperatures. To help you experience fall in Newport News to the fullest, we've put together a list of the fun activities you can look forward to in the upcoming weeks. Enjoy!

1. 45th Annual Newport News Fall Festival - October 6-7

Coastal Virginia’s biggest traditional craft show, the Fall Festival of Folklife has been held in Newport News Park since 1974. It’s here that groups can indulge in traditional crafts and trades, demonstrations, folk music, and the many sights, sounds, and memories that have been passed down from generation to generation. 2. Harvest Faire: Peninsula's Oldest Renaissance Festival - October 12-14

Harvest Faire is a modern interpretation of a late 15th-century European fall harvest celebration and tournament at Endview Plantation. Entertainers and a market mix with the sounds of good-natured martial competition and the smells of period cooking. Watch a craftsperson plying their trade, try your hand at games of chance and skill, and cheer for the warrior of your choice at the Field of Honors. Learn more

3. 13th Annual Port Warwick Art & Sculpture Festival - October 13-14

Another great setting for outdoor fall fun can be found at the 13th Annual Port Warwick Art & Sculpture Festival around Styron Square in Port Warwick. More than 100 artists and sculptors from across the nation are showcased in this gorgeous outdoor setting. Learn more

4. The Noland Trail Marathon Relay - October 14

The Noland Trail Marathon & Relay will give runners the opportunity to race the ONLY event run on the beautiful Noland Trail in The Mariners’ Museum Park. Runners can take on this challenging run solo, or team up with friends and do it as a relay. This event will take place prior to the Mariners' ARRtober Festival kickoff! Learn more

5. The Mariners' ARRRtober Festival - October 14

The Mariners’ ARRRtober Festival is a family-friendly event, featuring live music, craft beer tastings, food trucks, pirate storytelling, Scallywag School, hayrides, and more! The Festival portion will begin at 1:00 PM, and will feature food trucks, live music, craft beer, cider and wine tastings, and lots of family-friendly games and activities. Entrance to the Festival is $2 per person. Children 3 and under are free. Most activities are included with Festival admission. Craft Beer tasting tickets are sold separately. Learn more

6. Newport News Greek Festival, Fall Edition - October 18-20

Tasty Greek dishes, music and dancing bring thousands to the fall edition of the Newport News Greek Festival. Enjoy food specialties such as moussaka, spanakopita, pastitsio, and mouth-watering pastries while listening to Greek music and watching traditional folk dancing. Learn more

7. City Center Oyster Roast - October 19

This festival of oysters and other Chesapeake Bay seafood is a local favorite! Enjoy great food, music from local artists, and family fun. Parking and admission are free. Learn more

8. City Center Fall Fest - October 20

Come and enjoy free hayrides, pumpkin painting, live music and more! Adults can savor ample tastings of craft beer, hard cider and wine. Food trucks, craft vendors and seasonal products will also be available. It will be a day of free music, fun and activities for the whole family!

9. 16th Annual Virginia Fall Classic - October 26-28

Cars, especially the old classics, will remain a passion for automobile enthusiasts for years to come – and as long as there are enthusiasts, there will be car shows! The Virginia Fall Classic is a 3-day event that includes a cruise-in, dinner, music, car/truck/bike shows and more. Each year’s event draws thousands of spectators and hundreds of vehicles. The event raises thousands of dollars for CHKD in Norfolk. Enjoy food vendors, a children’s area, demonstrations and more. The car show will be held at Newport News Park. Learn more

10. Virginia Living Museum Oyster Roast - November 10

Enjoy all-you-can-eat fresh local Chesapeake Bay oysters, fried seafood, chowder, dessert buffet, craft beers, wine, full bar, DJ/live music, commemorative glass, raffles & more at the Virginia Living Museum’s seventh annual Oyster Roast!
