Fourth of July Events in Newport News and Nearby

Visit Newport News on Independence Day to experience 4th of July Stars in the Sky! The event begins at 7 p.m. at Victory Landing Park, located at the end of 23rd Street, on the James River. Enjoy strolling entertainers, free children’s rides (including a giant slide, moon bounce and obstacle course), along with free face painting.

No need to plan dinner at home since food vendors will be on site to sell a variety of items, ranging from hot dogs and hamburgers to funnel cakes and frozen treats!

The USAF Heritage of America Band, “The Blue Aces,” will play from 7 to 9:30 p.m. “The Blue Aces” is known for its diverse mix of today’s hits, throwback classics, and a bit of everything in between! With a lead singer, guitar, keyboards, bass, drums and audio engineer, this band of six has a true Americana sound.

A spectacular fireworks show by the internationally award-winning fireworks company, Pyrotecnico, will light up the sky over the James River at 9:30 p.m. Guests are reminded to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating and remember that coolers and/or picnic baskets are permitted, but alcohol is not (pets, bicycles, skateboards and radios are not allowed either).

In the event of inclement weather, such as rain or high winds, updates will be available on an after-hours phone recording at 757-926-1400; on the websites www.nnva.gov/parks-and-recreation and www.nnparks.com; on Twitter at nnfestivals; and on Facebook at NewportNewsFestivals.

To attend, take Exit 6 from Interstate 664 to 26th Street, turn left onto Huntington Avenue, and then turn right on 23rd Street.  Free parking is available at the Newport News City Hall parking lot and designated non-restricted public parking spaces in the downtown area.
