Is there an entry fee to submit images?
No, entry is free.
Do I have to live in Newport News to enter?
No! While we encourage all our residents to enter, the contest is open to all U.S. residents ages 18 years and older. Newport News Tourism Development Office staff, judges and sponsors are ineligible to enter.
When can I submit my images and where?
Images will be accepted beginning May 22, 2008. Final call for entries will be September 5, 2008. Entries may be submitted electronically, or mailed on a CD/DVD to the NNTDO at: ZOOM In Photo Contest, Newport News Tourism Development Office, 700 Town Center Drive, Suite 320, Newport News, VA, 23606.
Can I submit images from neighboring cities?
While we are proud of our neighboring cities, for entries to be eligible for inclusion into this contest, they must have been taken within the City of Newport News, Virginia.
Can digital images be submitted?
Yes! We are accepting both digital and film images, as long as they meet the size requirements of a minimum of 5"x7" at 300dpi. All images must be submitted electronically as either TIFF or JPEG files, though, either via www.newport-news.org or mailed on a CD/DVD to: ZOOM In Photo Contest, Newport News Tourism Development Office, 700 Town Center Drive, Suite 320, Newport News, VA, 23606.
How many images can I enter?
Maximum number of entries is 25 images per entrant. Each image must be accompanied by an official entry form.
Can I use photo-editing tools to enhance my images?
While minor enhancements will be acceptable, we ask that images not be dramatically altered, have borders, frames or text added, or have signatures, copyright or watermarks embedded. Also, all images should be in full color. Black and white images will not be accepted.
Who will own the copyright of images submitted, and will they be used in the future?
Photograhers will retain the copyright to their own images, but by entering them into this contest they permit unrestricted usage by the NNTDO to promote the city, without receiving any fee or compensations. This applies to winning and non-winning entries.
Can I submit images that contain my family and friends?
Yes! We want to see images of you and your family enjoying our City, however there are requirements for images that contain identifiable people and minors. A model release/parental release is required in these instances. Please see the downloadable entry form and guidelines for these requirements.
Will my images be returned to me?
No, unfortunately we cannot return images submitted. Please make sure you keep a copy for your own files.
How will the winners be decided?
A panel of judges will select winners based on overall compostion and technical skill.
What can I win?
The grand prize includes $500 cash, a $200 MOTOPHOTO gift certificate for in-house printing services, plus VIP passes for four people for Newport News attractions. Total prize package value: $900!
Honorable mention prize includes $100 cash, a $50 gift certificate for MOTOPHOTO for in-house printing services, plus VIP passes for two people for Newport News attractions. Total prize package value: approx $300.
Additional prizes may be awarded at the discretion of the judges and NNTDO.
Where will the winner be announced and when?
Winning images will be displayed on the NNTDO Website, www.newport-news.org and may appear in news articles and press releases. Winners will be announced and notified In October 2008.
